Turning a corner?

Here is a picture of Max opening a present with Daddy.

I was dreading taking Max back to daycare after the long break since things were not going to0 well there but it hasn't been as bad as I thought.

The report from Charles is that when he has picked Max up this week he wasn't standing at the window crying. He was actually playing with toys and having fun. He was actually playing with the other kids too! So yesterday one of the teachers told Charles that Max has done so much better this week. He has been more involved in what's going on and happier.

He still gets really upset for the drop off but according to Misty (his morning teacher) that doesn't last as long and after 10 minutes or so settles down.

Charles and I are thrilled about this but we have to be realistic. It's only been one good week and as we've learned you can't count on anything with a toddler. We'll see what next week brings.

I can't help but think 2 things really helped Max turn a corner this week.

1. When we discovered that Max knows all the words that he knows I think it lifted a lot of Max's frustrations. I can see a total difference in his personality since this has happened. Even though he still can't communicate his frustrations with words he can see that it's possible to communicate with us. We are doing all we can to make this easier for him. It seems like Max isn't very far from talking. He has a few words now but I mean small sentences.

2. Being with Grandma Phyllis and seeing that someone else was in our house loving on him and feeding him, playing with him etc. For the first time he was really aware of this other person and was really receptive to her.

Soon GJ and Paw-Paw will be coming for a visit and this is going to be so good for Max to have 2 more people to come into his life and love on him. Not that they haven't seen him before but it's building his trust skills now that he is receptive to allowing other people to engage with him in his daily activities. If you entertain and feed him he'll love you so get ready to act silly Paw-paw and GJ!

One last thing. Max has a cute game and it has a name! It's called Duh-Duh. It's a game he plays with his Daddy.

He looks at Charles and laughs and says Duh-Duh. Then he turns and runs. That means he wants daddy to chase him around the house. When daddy catches him he laughs really hard. It's fun to watch.

Exciting news to post about our new house but that will have to wait for now. I've been on the computer far too long and have to get going on other things.
